UK record companies suck!

I’ve been purchasing CD’s from CDWOW for a couple of weeks, as they are a couple of quid cheaper than in the shops (each CD is around £7.99), and I have the added benefit of ordering them from in front of my computer.

However, I received an email this morning informing me that once again I’d be getting screwed for living in the UK.

Update: Read this article for more information.

Dear Member,

The UK Major record companies through their mouth piece the BPI* have unfortunately restricted the UK and Irish consumers right to enjoy the freedom of the World Wide Web.

As from this weekend, any CD ordered for delivery to the UK and Ireland will incur a surcharge as we are only able to deliver CDs manufactured within the EU (more expensive).

Delivery to the rest of the world will not be affected.

We will of course still be supplying UK and Irish customers but as of Sunday 25th January 2004 a surcharge of £2.00 (3.00 Euros) per CD will apply.

Warmest Regards,

CD WOW!

eel better when I buy CD’s and feel like I’m actually “doing the right thing”… What I don’t like is the fact that we pay so much more than other EU/US companies for our music.

Are we more fanatical of our than others?

Do they think we have a lot more money?

Whatever the reason, I think I’ll stop buying CD’s and start paying a monthly subscription to all of mp3.com… that way I save money and can download plenty of albums for the same price as 1 CD.

If they want to start screwing me, then I’ll start screwing them!
