I’m Quitting Smoking
I’m about to go downstairs and smoke what will hopefully be my last ever cigarette.
I’ve been meaning to quit for some time now, and recent events coupled with a lack of money (I’m a student) means that I need to quit sooner rather than later. I’ve been looking for a reason to quit for ages, and after smoking for nearly 10 years I think the time is right for so many reasons…
- Money - It’s costing me a fortune!
- Health - This one is self-explanatory.
- Life - Karen and I are planning for the future and every penny helps, and quitting reduces my chances of being taken ill with a smoking related illness.
- Football (soccer) - I’ve very recently starting playing regular football again for a local team, and am looking forward to getting back to my best so that I can start to win things again.
To keep me away from the cigs and to keep myself busy I’ll be blogging about my experience, feelings and emotions over the coming weeks and months. You’ll be able to read all about it here.
Thanks, and wish me luck!

I stopped at the beginning of March. I read this book by Alan Carr who is a Brit and not some guru guy from LA. Scariest thing for me was getting through the whole of St Patricks without a smoke…the scary thing being I didn’t want one!
Best of luck to you. It is worth it, The cash saving is unbelieveable, you feel good and I seem to have loads of time! Smoking can be such a time wasting activity :)

Stay with it. It’s really worth it. I quit 12 years ago after 35 years as a heavy smoker and I can’t understand why I didn’t succeed in quiting earlier. I feel so much better.
While it may be stressful now, you will find that life will be far less stressful after a few months. There will be some very rough periods during the first three months. Just shut your mouth and get through them. Be dilligent. Once a smoker, always a smoker. While I rarely have a flashback, they still occur for most ex-smokers.
Good luck and yell for help when you feel overwhelmed. Please don’t wait for years like I did.
