Phew!

Having handed in 2 assignments and having done a 20 minute presentation I’m really glad that this week is over and done with… finally.

A few things of note before I take a well earned days rest:

Why do you wish Netscape would roll over? It’s a name that many people trust, and from 6 onwards is actually a good product. As a web developer, I’m glad that NS 4 is essentially dead, but bring on the next version of Netscape (8?), I say!

    Tim,

The problem I have with Netscape stems from a hatred for NS4 and the many headaches experienced over the years that were induced when trying to cater to NS4 (and clients) needs.

NS6 was better… but when Netscape conceded defeat the whole shebang got a little easier… I fear Netscape will let things go stale again, and again we’ll be in a vicious circle.

I’m not against Netscape as a company… I am against Netscape being allowed to dip their toe back into the Browser market… However, I fear that this will be the only way to get Firefox truly accepted by the masses.

Work or play… is that a serious question? Half Life 2 is eating away at me, I’ve got to play it soon. Hopefully when I get back to my PC I’ll have a go. I can’t wait for Ghost Recon 2, I loved the first one and have all the add-on packs. I didn’t think GR2 would be out till next year sometime though on PC (I think it’s out on XBox now?).

About Netscape: I’ve never really used it. I don’t see many people making the connection between them an Firefox. The target audience for Firefox (who don’t already know about it) are the computer iliterate, mid-thirties and “silver-surfer” generations who have only used Internet Explorer. I think most people use (as an alternative) Firefox, Opera or Mozilla. I rarely test in Netscape.

Thats just the thing Trev… Netscape are supposed to be using Firefox as a base for their next browser.

AOL/Netscape etc have a lot more money, and therefor marketing clout, than The Mozilla Group. This results in them being able to really get Firefox out to the masses.

I understand that the number of Firefox downloads up to now is impressive… but I’m also willing to bet that Netscape could (and probably will) tripple that number.

I just hope they don’t put out a browser that they let wilt and fall.

Personally, when I haven’t been at work, I’ve been spltting my time between Final Fantasy 7, Zelda: Majora’s Mask, SSX 3, and Metroid Prime 2. All of them are excellent games, and I made the sad mistake of starting them all up at the same time. Now, I have a hard time putting any of them down…
