The Life of Me

Friday Football Fun

Barclays PremiershipAnother relatively quiet week on the Premiership football front, with no real transfer news other than Fadiga joining Bolton.

Some tasty fixtures again this week, with Arsenal taking on Bolton, Chelsea taking on local rivals Tottenham and Manchester United taking on Liverpool. After Bolton’s last few fixtures (a win vs Liverpool, draw vs Man United) I’m edging my bets at a draw. However, taking into consideration Arsenal’s run of form this is very unlikely, but you should never bet against your own team. :)

Saturday’s Games
Arsenal 2 v 2 Bolton
Birmingham 2 v 1 Charlton
Blackburn 2 v 1 Portsmouth
Crystal Palace 1 v 2 Man City
Norwich 1 v 3 Aston Villa
West Brom 1 v 2 Fulham
Sunday’s Games
Southampton 1 v 3 Newcastle
Everton 1 v 1 Middlesbrough
Chelsea 3 v 1 Tottenham
Monday’s Games
Man Utd 2 v 1 Liverpool

Think you can do better? Post your predictions in the comments.

Friday Football Fun

Barclays Premiership League Table as of 10th September 2004Once again Friday is here and that can only mean one thing… Friday Football Fun!

Let’s hope this week I can beat ol’ Lawro who’s predictions are usually 10 times worse than my own.

No big news really this week, other than the Newcastle managers job going to a fool, the England players silence after a poor show by the english press, and of course, the farce that would have been the Sven-Goran Eriksson’s sacking. How stupid would this country (England) have to be to sack one of the most successful managers we’ve ever had? It’s that sort of mentality that actually makes me ashamed to be English sometimes. Wake up people!

Saturday’s Games
Aston Villa 1 v 3 Chelsea
Bolton 1 v 1 Man Utd
Fulham 1 v 3 Arsenal
Liverpool 2 v 0 West Brom
Man City 1 v 1 Everton
Middlesbrough 2 v 1 Birmingham
Newcastle 2 v 1 Blackburn
Portsmouth 2 v 1 Crystal Palace
Sunday’s Games
Tottenham 3 v 1 Norwich
Monday’s Games
Charlton 2 v 2 Southampton

Lets hope this weekends brings another good result for my beloved Bolton, who face none other than Manchester United this week.

Sunday’s Games
Bolton 2 v 1 Liverpool

Apologies for not having time to post my predictions for Saturday’s games, the week ended in a hectic rush and it totally slipped my mind.

Mid-Week Football Fun

With the mid-week fixtures coming in the middle of a busy week for me, I’ve decided to post my predictions today.

Tuesday’s Results
Birmingham 2 v 2 Man City
Crystal Palace 1 v 4 Chelsea
Wednesday’s Results
Arsenal 3 v 1 Blackburn
Fulham 1 v 2 Middlesbrough
Southampton 0 v 2 Bolton
West Brom 1 v 2 Tottenham
Charlton 2 v 2 Aston Villa
Newcastle 3 v 1 Norwich

I got 2 predictions correct at the weekend, leaving me just beating Ian by 1.

If others want to join in and post their predictions, then I’ll collate all the results at the end of the season… and maybe offer a prize. If I get enough time during the week, then I might start running a leaderboard too… we’ll see.

Good Luck.

Friday Football Fun

With Michael Owen now at Real Madrid, Arsenal still winning, Chelsea still buying and Liverpool still struggling, things are becoming a little too predictable aren’t they?

Not if last week’s predictions are anything to go by… so lets try again:

Saturday’s Fixtures
Southampton 2 v 2 Blackburn
Newcastle 3 v 1 Tottenham
Birmingham 2 v 4 Chelsea
Charlton 2 v 1 Portsmouth
Crystal Palace 1 v 2 Everton
Fulham 1 v 2 Bolton
Liverpool 3 v 2 Man City
Man Utd 4 v 1 Norwich
Sunday’s Fixtures
West Brom 1 v 1 Aston Villa
Arsenal 3 v 1 Middlesbrough

Hopefully Bolton can continue their winning ways against Fulham so that we can be in a comfortable position in the table once the really hard fixtures start rolling in.

Day 4

Yesterday went pretty well as I try to quit smoking. I even managed to sit with the lads in the bar after football without wanting a cigarette — Something I never thought I’d be able to do so soon. Getting back to the football, we (the Leigh British Legion FC) beat The 3 Crowns 7-1 last night, our biggest pre-season victory so far.

I’m already feeling the benefits of quitting such as a clearer (less congested) chest, more energy, more time and money. Unfortunately I’ve been unable to get a good nights sleep for the past 2 days, I don’t exactly know why though.

Friday Football Fun

Its finally here… the start of the new Premiership season!

With big summer signings for Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal expect the big boys to do the business again this season. With Michael Owen probably on his way to Real Madrid can Liverpool turn the likes of Milan Baros into a goal scoring machine? Will the big boys at Chelsea play well together and look like a team from the start? Will Manchester United falter yet again without Rio Ferdinand at the start of the season? All these questions are what makes the start of the season better every time!

Anyway, enough rambling from me, lets get onto the football predictions for this week.

Saturdays Predictions
Aston Villa 2 v 2 Southampton
Blackburn 2 v 1 West Brom
Bolton 3 v 2 Charlton
Man City 2 v 1 Fulham
Middlesbrough 3 v 2 Newcastle
Norwich 1 v 0 Crystal Palace
Portsmouth 1 v 2 Birmingham
Tottenham 1 v 3 Liverpool
Sundays Predictions
Chelsea 4 v 2 Manchester United
Everton 1 v 3 Arsenal

Don’t forget to watch all the action on the nations favourite (terrestrial tv) football show, Match of the Day.

Robbed… Again!

I started to write about England’s exit at the Euro 2004 football championships… then I saw this post… I think that sums it up perfectly.

Probably not worksafe and you definitely shouldn’t be showing this to kids. :)

En-ger-land, En-ger-land, En-ger-land

After Sunday’s heart breaking defeat to the French I was left feeling speechless and empty for a good few hours.

I found myself thinking what England fans have thought many, many times before… Why us?

40 minutes into the game, and whole country was ecstatic thanks to Frank Lampard’s brilliant header from a David Beckham cross. 50 minutes later and no-one spoke a word… everyone sat there in a complete shocked silence.

If the game had ended having played 90 minutes, England would have been victorious and all the negative journalism would have been directed at the French team. As it happens, we couldn’t hold on for the final 3 minutes and flicked the self-destruct button yet again to let France score 2 goals and finish the game 2-1 winners. A 1-1 scoreline would have been fair, but to lose the game and come away with nothing was crushing.

Anyway, Sundays game is out of the way and we can be pleased that we managed to hold the supposed European Champions and many of the supposed worlds great players till the final 3 minutes.

Now we face a must win game against Switzerland on Thursday evening and the England fans must once again bite their fingers and hope that our team does us proud.

Come on England!
